Movie search
If you are searching for a specific movie or TV show, you have a few options.
If you know the name of the movie or show that you are looking for, simply type it in the search string, select Movie or TV Show and click on Search. Then find the movie or show in the search results.
You can also select the first letter of the film or show title in the Browse by letters box and then find it in the list.
If you don’t know yet, which movie or show you would like to download, you can either find one by genre or randomly browse the iwatchfilm.com homepage for top, newest, hottest, 2009 movies and shows or those videos for which reviews have been posted recently.
Movie formats
Different file formats are available for download on iwatchfilm.com. Keep in mind that not all the formats are available for each movie or TV show.
| HD (720p or 1080p) |
High-definition video with vertical resolution of either 720 or 1080 pixel. Brings you the ultimate sound and image quality. Sometimes a few audio tracks in different languages are available for one movie or TV show. The only drawback is the large size of the file, which may take pretty long to download. However, if you have a fast internet connection, there is nothing to worry about. Keep in mind that not all computers, DVD players and TVs are able to playback HD videos, so make sure your equipment does before downloading the movie in this format. |
| DVD |
The movie has been ripped from a DVD, so the quality is as good as when you watch a DVD. Such movies and TV shows are good for watching on your PC and perfect for burning them onto a blank DVD and watching on a DVD player hooked up to a TV. The size of the download may vary but it’s usually somewhere between HD and DivX. |
| DivX |
This format has been developed specifically for computer/laptop users who download videos from the internet. The quality is good enough to watch it on your computer/laptop and even on a DVD player and TV. Yet, the size of the file is small, so the download doesn’t take much time. Moreover, if you are creating a movie/TV show library, DivX format is the perfect choice for you as it won’t take up much disk space. DivX is the most popular format on the Web. |
| iPod / iPhone |
Such videos are perfect for watching on… guess what… an iPod or an iPhone. The size is very small, so the download will not take much time. Moreover, the video and audio quality is optimized for mobile devices giving you an ultimate experience of watching the movie/TV show, created just for your iPod or iPhone. |
| PDA |
Video which has been optimized for handhelds. The resolution has been changed to fit the screen of most mobile devices, and the audio has also been remastered in order for you to enjoy the video which fits your handheld perfectly. |
| LQ |
The movie or TV show episode is so new that the DVD hasn’t hit the shelves yet, and so the video is only available as a low-quality download. You can watch it on your computer but we would recommend that you download a short preview first in order to see if you would like to watch the movie with such quality. |
Inspecting video quality and information
When you click on a movie or TV show title, you can see a page, dedicated just to this video. On that page, you can see the full title of the movie, its short description, formats available for purchase and download, and then a detailed description which includes the storyline, actors, IMDB rating etc.
In order to see technical details about the file, you can choose the format you are planning to download (the selected format is highlighted in blue) and take a look at the Video Information box, which includes runtime, resolution, codec (coder-decoder – a small piece of software which you may need in order to playback the video on your computer or DVD player), bitrate (one of the quality indicators which may be calculated as the file size in kilobits divided by the runtime in seconds), FPS (frames-per-second, another quality indicator. Human eye can see 24 frames-per-second. If the FPS is much smaller, then the video may be blinking), and total size (which will determine how long you will be downloading the file from our website). Also, if subtitles are available for the movie, you will see a drop-down menu in the Video Information box. If you would like to download subtitles, simply choose the language of the subtitles for the movie in the dropdown menu, and the download of the subs will begin.

Also, screenshots are available for each movie, aimed to help you evaluate the quality of the video, as these screenshots are taken directly from the video you are planning to download. In order to see a screenshot, you simply scroll the page down to the Stills Gallery box and click on the image that you would like to view. It will then open in a new window.

If the movie or TV show is only available in low quality (LQ), a short preview is also available for download in order to help you evaluate the quality of the video and determine whether you would like to purchase it. In order to download the preview, select LQ format and then click on the “preview” word highlighted in blue (hyperlink). The size of the preview is provided in the brackets.
Purchasing a movie or TV show
When you find the movie or TV show that you would like to purchase and download, simply go to the page with the description of the video.
On that page, you can see different formats available for download (for more details on formats see the Movie formats section of this page). Click on the format that you would like to download. The selected format will be highlighted in blue, and details for the video will be showed in the Video Information box.
When this step is complete, just click on the big green button which reads Download. You can see the price of the purchase right underneath this button.

On the next page, you will see your current balance, the cost, the size and the name of the movie that you are about to download.
As soon as you click the DOWNLOAD NOW button, the cost of the movie or TV show is charged from your deposit, and you are forwarded to the next page where you can see the direct link for the download.
Downloading a video
Downloading with your browser
If you have completed the purchase and are ready to download the movie or TV show you’ve just paid for, you are probably looking at the final purchase page.
In order to download the movie using the in-built features of your web browser (the procedure is similar for all browsers, including Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari etc), simply click the name of the file that you are about to download which is highlighted in blue, select Save file and then click OK. Congrats, the download is on.

If it’s not, you can navigate to the box underneath the name of the movie (which reads Cut&Paste URL), select the entire content of that box, copy it, paste it into your browser’s address line and press Enter.
Moreover, you can download the file again within two weeks from the purchase. In order to do so, click on Files available for download, navigate to the movie that you would like to re-download and click on “download”. A small box will appear. Then click on the name of the file highlighted in blue in the box, choose Save file and click OK or right-click the name of the file, choose Copy link location from the dropdown menu, then paste the link into your browser’s address line and press Enter.
We strongly discourage you from using Microsoft Internet Explorer (6–8) for downloading files from our website. Movies are relatively big and may take long to download, and Internet Explorer freezes a lot. If it freezes in the middle of the download (or, worse, when you have downloaded 99.9% of the movie you have been craving), the download will crash and you will have to start the download process all over again. This is why we recommend using download managers instead of the in-built OS browsers to download files.
Downloading with your download manager
We recommend that you download files from iwatchfilm.com with a download manager rather than with your browser as most download managers allow you to resume your download if the system or your internet connection crashes, and most browsers can’t do that.
In order to download the file with a download manager, copy the link (URL) to the file as described in the sub-section above, start the download manager, click New download, paste the link to the file in the URL box and click OK.
We recommend considering FlashGet download manager for Microsoft Windows users. If you are a Mac user, we recommend Folx Download Manager.
Before you are able to purchase and download movies, you have to create an account and add money to your deposit.
Video playback
In order to watch a movie or TV show on your computer you will need two things: a media player application and a codec.
Codec (coder – decoder) is a piece of software that allows your computer to translate digital signal into video and sound. Different movie formats and versions require different codecs.
Some of them come preinstalled with your operating system. However, codec packs are available which combine all the wide-spread codecs and the less popular ones. For Windows users, we recommend K-Lite Codec Pack, and for Mac computers we think that Perian Codec is the best choice.
Another component that you will need to watch a video is a media player application. Most operating systems have in-built media players which will suit 90% of users. Still, there are these 10% who wish to use only the most functional yet simple media players. Good news for you guys: VLC player which allows you to do all kinds of tricks when watching a video (like switching audio streams, changing the playback speed, tweaking video and audio properties) is freeware and is available both for Windows and Mac OS computers.
All the codecs and application described above are available for free downloads online. The links are provided below.
Downloading and using subtitles
On iwatchfilm.com, subtitles are now available in many languages for most of the movies that we have to offer.
In order to download subtitles, you have to register and log in first.
When you are logged in, you should go to the description of the movie or TV show episode. After that, find the Video Information box, then the Subtitles line and click on the drop-down menu. As soon as you choose the language of the subtitles, a window will appear offering you to open or save the subtitles file. Save the file to the folder where the movie is or will be stored. When the subtitles file is on your computer, unpack it (you can use WinRAR or any other archiver software to do so).
In order to make the process of using the subtitles easier, we recommend you to name the subtitles file the same way as the video file is named. For example, if you have downloaded Coraline movie and the file is called “Coraline.avi”, the subtitles file should be named “Coraline.txt” or “Coraline.srt”. This way, many media player applications will automatically use the subtitles every time you start the video file. This will also be useful if you plan to burn the subtitles and the movie to a CD or DVD, as some of those DVD players that support subtitles can only do so if the name of the subtitles file matches the name of the video file.
Burning video files to CDs/DVDs
If you are planning to watch the movies or TV shows that you have downloaded on a DVD player hooked up to a TV set, you can do so in two ways. You can either use the in-built capabilities of the operating system or make use of special software like Nero for Windows.
In case you are using the features of your OS, the procedure will differ for different systems. However, the principles are similar: you copy the files that you wish to burn to a special location and then click “Burn”. Keep in mind that the files should be burnt as data files, not as DVD or Video-CD. In case you do not possess advanced computer knowledge, burning the CD or DVD with the in-built capabilities of the operating system is the easier and safer way for you.
However, using special software will also work. If you are CD\DVD burning software, also make sure you switch on the ISO CD/DVD or Data CD/DVD mode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I've just purchased a movie. How do I go about downloading now?
A: It's simple. You may download it in two ways: by clicking the link with the name of the movie or cut&paste URL given in the box.
Q: How do I use FlashGet?
A: Once you've downloaded and installed FlashGet, right-click the link in your History of Purchases and then click "Download with FlashGet". Choose the folder in which you want to save the file and click "OK".
Q: I successfully purchased and downloaded a couple of movies but when I try to play them on my PC they won't work for some reason...
A: We recommend that you use VLC media player which you can download from the Help section of our website (free of charge). You need to do the following:
- Download VLC media Player.
- Install it.
- Run VLC.
- Click File, and then choose Open File.
- Click the Browse button at the top right of the Open dialog box that appears. Choose the file you would like to play and either double click it or click Open.
- Enjoy the movie.
Q: I have downloaded some movies. But where are they? I can't find the movie I downloaded on my PC even though the message said the download was complete. How do I get to them?
A: Whatever software you used to download movies, it asked where you want them saved before download began. You can try using "Search..." feature located under "Start" menu in Windows to find the files.
Q: I paid for the movie I wanted but my Internet connection suddenly broke in the middle of downloading process… Should I download it again? Will I be charged a second time?
A: No. You can find all your purchases together with download URLs in the History of Purchases. Please note that you can re-download movies from there without being charged twice within two weeks from the date of purchase.
Q: I am a little frustrated with your whole download procedure. Is it normal that one movie took me 3 hours to download!!! Please advise.
A: Downloading a normal movie takes only about 60 to 120 minutes. Download time depends on the size of the file, your equipment and the speed of your Internet connection. We strongly recommend that you use FlashGet download manager which you can find in the Help section of the website (free of charge). It will give you better speed and it will be able to resume downloads if they stall.
Q: How do I burn your films to CD/DVDs?
A: There are many different programs you can use to burn a movie to a CD/DVD. When you burn files to DVD using Nero, burn them as regular data files, do not choose "DVD Video" media type when asked. Use "ISO DVD" or "Data DVD" instead. Your player must support MPEG4/DivX/XviD video playback.
Q: Movies don't have sound! What's wrong?
A: It appears that you don't have AC3 audio codec installed. If you are running Microsoft Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista, please download and install codec pack from the Help section of the website (free of charge).
If you happen to be a Mac user, you have to find AC3 audio codec for Mac. Try this one:
http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Audio/AC3-Codec.shtml
or
http://www.google.com/search?q=AC3+sound+for+MAC
or
http://airrunner.wordpress.com/2006/09/04/ac3-playback-on-mac-os-x/
Q: The movie consists of three parts. How am I able to watch them as one film?
A: You can merge all files together using freeware program YAMB or try this: http://www.squared5.com/. You can also use video player that supports play lists (VLC, LigtAlloy). Home video players switch between files automatically if files are in the same folder.
Q: I want to watch movies on my iPod. What do I need to do?
A: If you want to watch movies only on your iPod, it is easier for you to choose iPod format when you download a movie. All other formats (HD, DVD, DivX, PDA) you'll have to convert manually for them to be playable on iPods. You can convert movies using this free piece of software: http://www.zml.com/files/SUPER_v2008_build24.exe
Q: I bought this movie several weeks ago but when I try to download it now, it doesn't work. Why?
A: You can find all your purchases together with download URLs in the History of Purchases. Please note that you can re-download movies from there without being charged twice within two weeks from the date of purchase.
