The Dark Lurking
| Description: | Something has gone terribly wrong at research station 320, a secret research facility one mile beneath the earth's surface. All communications are gone, all means of escape destroyed and an extremely dangerous horde of rapidly mutating ancient flesh eating creatures are consuming everything in their path. Eight survivors of the outpost, two research subjects, three mercenaries, two research technicians and a medic barricade themselves inside a remote area of the facility with little food, almost no means of defense and little hope of rescue. Their one possible escape route is through thirteen levels of terror that will lead them to the surface. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark
| Description: | A young girl, Sally (Bailee Madison), moves in with her father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes); her dad is renovating an old house he hopes to sell. Due to the fact that her mother recently abandoned her, Sally is a distant young girl. Although her father's girlfriend, Kim, tries to warm up to her, Sally frequently alienates herself from her. During the film, Sally finds a hidden basement with a sealed fireplace. Sally finds herself drawn toward the fireplace, as she can hear voices that beg her to open it, promising friendship. Her dad stops her before she can get the door completely open, but small goblin-like creatures escape, and begin to torment Sally at night. As the days progress, Kim finds one of her dresses shredded. Shortly afterward, a teddy bear that Kim gave to Sally is found, destroyed. Sally claims that something (or someone) else is to blame for these things, only to not be trusted by her father, who is preoccupied with renovating the house. Kim, however, begins to believe her claims, as strange incidents occur more steadily, and their relationship blossoms. Kim begins to delve into the history of the house to find that the previous owner's son missing, and later disappeared, himself. Before his disappearance, he ranted about small creatures dating back from the Stone Age that were known to kidnap people (usually children) for the purpose of replenishing their numbers. The man drew images of the creatures, and Kim finds that they match Sally's illustrations and descriptions. Realizing the imminent danger, Kim attempts to get Sally out of the house, and stay in a hotel, despite Alex's objections. Moments before they leave, the power is cut, and they are trapped in the house, at the mercy of the creatures. |
